Arab countries, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, are increasingly turning to India for an unexpected export: cow dung! In the financial year 2023-24, India exported nearly ₹400 crore worth of cow dung and related products, including fresh cow dung (₹125 crore), cow dung-based fertilizers (₹173.67 crore), and compost manure (₹88.02 crore).
The demand arises from the effectiveness of processed cow dung in boosting the growth and yield of date palms, a vital crop in arid regions. Kuwait has notably placed substantial orders, with some reaching up to 192 metric tons! The price of cow dung is on the rise, currently ranging from ₹30 to ₹50 per kilogram, as its global recognition as a sustainable agricultural input grows.
