The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government has officially launched an Electronic Driving Licence (E-Driving Licence), allowing motorists to carry their driving licences digitally on their smartphones instead of keeping a physical licence card.
The initiative has been introduced through a collaboration between the KP Transport Department, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB), and the Dastak Digital Platform as part of the province’s broader digital governance and public service modernization programme.
According to the provincial government, the E-Driving Licence is designed to provide citizens with a more convenient, secure, and efficient way to access their driving credentials. Drivers can now retrieve their licences anytime through their mobile devices, reducing the risk of losing or damaging physical cards.

The digital licence will be recognized and accepted by traffic police, government departments, and courts across Pakistan, making it a legally valid alternative to the traditional licence card.
One of the key features of the new system is a secure QR code embedded in each digital licence. The QR code allows authorities to instantly verify the licence online within seconds, helping prevent forgery, tampering, and the use of fake documents while improving the accuracy and authenticity of driving records.
The launch reflects the KP government’s commitment to promoting Digital Pakistan by introducing technology-driven public services that are transparent, citizen-friendly, and easily accessible.
Officials believe the new system will simplify everyday interactions for motorists, reduce paperwork, improve administrative efficiency, and strengthen road safety enforcement through faster digital verification.
