The government has announced an ambitious plan to put 2.2 million electric vehicles (EVs) on Pakistan’s roads by 2030, alongside a series of measures to promote electric transportation nationwide.
During a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production, officials revealed that Rs. 9 billion has been allocated as a subsidy for the purchase of two- and three-wheeled electric vehicles. Under the scheme, buyers of electric motorcycles will receive financial assistance of up to Rs. 80,000 per bike.
The committee was also informed that Pakistan has so far locally manufactured more than 12,800 electric vehicles and 160,000 electric motorcycles, reflecting the country’s growing EV industry.

Experts believe that expanding the use of electric vehicles will reduce dependence on imported fuel, save foreign exchange, lower air pollution, and contribute to environmental sustainability. The subsidy program is also expected to make electric motorcycles more affordable for middle- and low-income households, encouraging wider adoption across the country.
