Pakistan’s Power Division has issued an advisory warning electricity consumers about fraudulent QR code scam being used to steal personal and financial information. According to officials, cybercriminals are exploiting the name of a government electricity subsidy scheme to mislead users into sharing sensitive data through fake digital links and QR codes.

The advisory states that consumers are being asked to click on suspicious links and complete multiple steps by entering personal information. After submitting details, users are reportedly instructed to enter a six-digit verification code, which could give scammers unauthorized access to private accounts and data. Authorities warned that certain elements are using QR codes for malicious purposes and clarified that official electricity bill information cannot be submitted through any unofficial platform.

The Power Division emphasized that the process being circulated online is illegal and not connected to any authorized government subsidy program. Relevant institutions and cybercrime authorities have already been informed about the fraudulent activities. Consumers have been strongly advised not to provide personal details, banking information, or verification codes on any digital or paper-based platform claiming to offer electricity subsidies.
