Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to resume direct flights to the United Kingdom, providing relief to passengers who have been facing difficulties in traveling between the two countries. The national carrier has intensified preparations for the resumption of flights, with plans to operate from Heathrow Airport in London.
PIA has invited bids for catering services at three UK stations, including London, Manchester, and Birmingham. Interested companies have been asked to submit their proposals to the Country Manager UK. The airline is expected to resume flights to the UK in mid-March, with Boeing 777 aircraft set to be used for the operations.
A team from the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Department of Transport is currently in Pakistan to audit PIA’s flight safety, engineering, and other aviation security departments. PIA is hopeful of passing the audit, which will pave the way for the resumption of direct flights to the UK. The airline’s administration has confirmed that it has started work on activating its slots at Heathrow Airport and Terminal 4 operations.
