The European Investment Bank has announced a €160 million financing package for Pakistan, aimed at supporting flood recovery and improving access to clean water.
According to the official statement, €100 million has been allocated for the reconstruction of flood-affected homes in the province of Sindh. The initiative is expected to help rebuild approximately 2.1 million houses damaged by recent floods, providing relief to millions of affected families and supporting long-term recovery efforts.
In addition, €60 million has been designated for clean water supply projects in Karachi. This funding will support the construction of two major water filtration plants, which are expected to benefit around 2.2 million people. Once completed, these facilities will provide up to 300 million liters of safe drinking water daily, significantly improving public health and living conditions.

These projects are part of the European Union’s broader Global Gateway strategy, which focuses on sustainable development and infrastructure investment in partner countries.
The agreements were announced during the EU-Pakistan Business Forum held in Islamabad. Officials from the European Investment Bank emphasized their commitment to increasing development investment in Pakistan, particularly in areas affected by climate change.
EIB representatives also highlighted that ensuring safe housing for vulnerable communities and access to clean drinking water are key priorities. They reaffirmed their support for environmentally sustainable practices and community involvement in the reconstruction process.
This financing package is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s resilience against climate challenges while improving essential infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for millions of citizens.
