In March 2026, Pakistan’s automobile market experienced two contrasting trends. While sales of traditional cars and vehicles dropped significantly, electric vehicle (EV) sales saw a notable increase. The latest industry data reveals that sales of cars, light commercial vehicles (LCVs), vans, and jeeps fell by 9% from February, reaching 15,531 units compared to 17,121 units the previous month.

Despite the monthly decline, the overall sales for March showed a 40% increase compared to the same month last year, when only 11,113 units were sold. Over the first nine months of the fiscal year, total sales in this category reached 144,029 units, reflecting a 43% increase from 100,736 units during the same period last year.

The main reason for the decline in sales was a sharp drop in passenger car sales, which fell 12% to 11,702 units in March. Within the passenger car segment, the 1000cc vehicles experienced the largest drop, falling by 36% to only 294 units. Additionally, cars below 1000cc saw an 18% decrease in sales, while cars of 1300cc and above dropped by 6%.

On the other hand, electric vehicle sales grew by a remarkable 61%, increasing from 33 units in February to 53 units in March. Although the total number of EVs sold is still small, this jump stands out amid the general slowdown in traditional vehicle sales.

Light commercial vehicles (LCVs), vans, and jeeps showed slight resilience, with a 1% increase in sales, reaching 3,776 units. This suggests that the decline in the market was primarily concentrated in the passenger car segment, while other categories performed better.
