The GWM Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV has reportedly arrived in Pakistan for local testing and evaluation ahead of its expected official introduction. Brought in by Sazgar and GWM/Haval, the rugged SUV could bring a completely different approach to Pakistan’s premium 4×4 market by combining serious off-road hardware with plug-in hybrid technology.
Under the hood, the Tank 300 PHEV combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering around 400 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. That huge torque figure could make the SUV particularly interesting for off-road driving, where instant electric power can be a major advantage.
The SUV also features a 37.1 kWh battery, reportedly offering up to 100 km of pure-electric driving range on a full charge. That means daily city trips could potentially be completed using electric power, while the petrol engine and hybrid system provide additional range for longer journeys.
Hybrid Vehicle Sales Stall as Pakistan’s Auto Policy Delay Continues
But this isn’t just a city-friendly hybrid wearing an off-road badge. The Tank 300 is built on a body-on-frame platform and comes with serious 4×4 equipment, including electronic differential locks, crawl control and multiple terrain modes. It is designed to tackle difficult surfaces while still offering modern technology and premium SUV features.
The potential arrival of the Tank 300 PHEV could make Pakistan’s premium off-road market even more competitive. Traditional Japanese 4x4s have dominated this space for years, but Chinese manufacturers are increasingly bringing powerful engines, advanced hybrid systems and technology-loaded SUVs to the market.
So the big question is: Would you choose a tech-packed 400 HP Chinese PHEV 4×4 over a traditional diesel Prado?
