Pakistan Railways is set to resume the Shalimar Express service between Lahore and Karachi from August 14, with the train operating via Sahiwal due to damage caused to railway bridges on the Faisalabad route.

Floodwaters damaged bridges at Qila Sattar Shah and Masan Kallar, leaving the Faisalabad route closed and prompting authorities to revise the train’s route.

Under the new schedule, the Shalimar Express will make additional stops at Kot Lakhpat, Raiwind, Okara, Sahiwal and Sadiqabad, providing more travel options for passengers along the route.

To encourage ridership, Pakistan Railways has also announced a 14% discount on fares across all classes.

The Shalimar Express previously operated through Sahiwal after its restoration in 2023. However, the service was later shifted to the Faisalabad route following low passenger numbers and financial losses.

The latest route adjustment is expected to maintain connectivity between Lahore and Karachi while the damaged railway infrastructure remains unavailable.
