Pakistan’s star javelin thrower and Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem has opened up about the injury that hampered his performance at the World Athletics Championships 2025, leading to his elimination in the final on Thursday.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Nadeem expressed his disappointment while thanking his supporters for their unwavering encouragement. He revealed that he had been nursing an injury since July 4, which significantly impacted his preparation and fitness levels.

Nadeem wrote:

“Dear Pakistanis, I want to thank each and one of you for your unwavering support and love throughout the World Athletics Championships. Although I couldn’t achieve the result I had hoped for in the final, I am proud to have represented our nation on the biggest stage.”

He added:

“I know I let you all down, but I promise to come back stronger and work even harder to make you proud. To be honest, I’ve been dealing with an injury since July 4th, which affected my preparation and fitness level. Despite this challenge, I gave it my all, and I appreciate the experience.”

Nadeem concluded by pledging to continue striving for excellence in future competitions.

In the final, Nadeem started with a throw of 82.73m, followed by a foul. His third attempt reached 82.75m, and another foul in the fourth round ended his hopes of advancing. He finished outside the top eight, missing the chance for three additional throws.

There were surprises across the board, with India’s defending Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra finishing a disappointing eighth (84.03m), well below his season’s best.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott claimed the world title with a throw of 88.16m — his first global gold since the 2012 Olympics. Grenada’s Anderson Peters took silver (87.38m), and Curtis Thompson of the USA earned bronze (86.67m), marking America’s first men’s javelin medal since 2007.

India’s Sachin Yadav impressed with a personal best of 86.27m to finish fourth, while Germany’s Julian Weber, a pre-event favorite, could only manage fifth (86.11m). Kenya’s Julius Yego, the 2015 world champion, had to withdraw due to an ankle injury sustained during the event.

Despite the setback, Nadeem remains a key medal hope for Pakistan at future international events, including the upcoming Olympics.
