The Lahore Traffic Police have introduced stricter enforcement measures by suspending the driving licences of motorists involved in both fatal and non-fatal road accidents. The initiative is aimed at improving road safety, reducing reckless driving, and promoting responsible driving habits across the city.
According to traffic authorities, 68 driving licences have already been suspended under the new policy following directions from the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO). Officials have warned that anyone found driving with a suspended licence will face legal action under the applicable traffic laws.
Under the revised enforcement policy, drivers found responsible for reckless, negligent, or dangerous driving may have their licences suspended for at least one year. In cases involving fatal road accidents, drivers will not only face licence suspension but will also be subject to legal proceedings as determined by the relevant authorities.

The Lahore Traffic Police stated that the initiative is part of a broader campaign to reduce traffic violations and improve public safety on city roads. Authorities believe stricter action against irresponsible drivers will help lower the number of road accidents and encourage motorists to follow traffic rules.
In addition to licence suspensions, the traffic police have intensified their crackdown on unlicensed drivers and motorcyclists carrying three passengers, a common traffic violation. Offenders may receive a Rs. 5,000 fine, while their vehicles or motorcycles may also be impounded depending on the severity of the violation.
Traffic officials have urged citizens to ensure they possess a valid driving licence, obey speed limits, wear helmets and seat belts, avoid dangerous driving practices, and comply with all traffic regulations. They stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation from every road user.
The latest enforcement measures reflect the Lahore Traffic Police’s commitment to creating safer roads and reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities. Authorities hope the stricter penalties will encourage motorists to drive responsibly and contribute to a safer transportation system throughout the city.
