The Government of Pakistan has formed a special committee to review and finalize the country’s new auto policy, with a strong focus on promoting electric vehicles (EV) and building a modern automotive industry.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to discuss the future of Pakistan’s automobile and auto parts sector. The meeting emphasized the need to create a competitive, innovative, and sustainable automotive ecosystem that can support long-term economic growth.
According to officials, the proposed policy aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing, increase industrial capacity, create skilled jobs, and encourage environmentally friendly transportation solutions. A major objective is to speed up Pakistan’s transition toward electric vehicles, which are considered essential for reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency.
The meeting was attended by senior government officials, including ministers responsible for power, petroleum, climate change, finance, railways, and industries, along with economic experts and policymakers. Participants reviewed various measures to encourage EV adoption and support the growth of local automotive manufacturing.

Officials were briefed on plans to provide policy support for the industry, attract investment, boost exports, and create employment opportunities. The proposed framework is also expected to contribute to Pakistan’s efforts to address climate change and promote sustainable development.
To ensure a thorough and inclusive review process, the meeting approved the formation of a subcommittee. The committee will consult with industry stakeholders, manufacturers, experts, and relevant institutions before finalizing recommendations for the new auto policy.
Experts believe the upcoming policy could play a key role in transforming Pakistan’s automotive sector by encouraging innovation, increasing local production, and preparing the country for the future of mobility.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to developing a stronger and more environmentally sustainable transport industry while creating new economic opportunities for businesses and workers across Pakistan.
