The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has approved an increase in the withholding tax on mobile call and internet packages, raising the annual tax rate from 19% to 33%.
Under the revised tax structure, subscribers will pay Rs. 500 in tax each month on call and data packages, Rs. 15 per day, and Rs. 300 per week. The tax on weekly packages has increased by Rs. 130, adding to the overall cost of mobile services for consumers.
The revised taxation is expected to increase the financial burden on millions of mobile users across Pakistan, particularly those who rely on prepaid packages for daily communication and internet access. Consumers and industry observers are closely monitoring the impact of the new tax rates on mobile usage and digital connectivity.
