In a shocking turn of events, farmers in Pakistan have started feeding their ready wheat to animals due to the government’s failure to announce a fair price for the crop. Despite the fact that wheat is a staple food in Pakistan, farmers are being forced to sell their produce at extremely low prices, making it difficult for them to make ends meet.
The government’s delay in announcing the official wheat price has left farmers in a state of distress. Last year’s wheat price was set at Rs 2,000 per 40 kg, but this year’s price has yet to be announced. Farmers are demanding a price of Rs 4,200 per 40 kg, considering the rising costs of production.
Chairman Kisan Ittehad, Khalid Hussain Bhatt, had earlier announced that farmers would fix their own wheat price and sell it at Rs 4,200 per 40 kg. He had also warned that if the government failed to announce a fair price, farmers would stage protests after Eid.
Farmers are facing immense difficulties due to the high costs of production, including expensive diesel, electricity, and fertilizers. The government’s failure to provide a fair price for their produce has left them with no choice but to feed their wheat to animals.
This situation has raised concerns about food security in Pakistan, as wheat is a staple crop in the country. The government’s inability to support farmers and ensure a fair price for their produce may have long-term consequences for the country’s food production and economy.
