The federal government has announced a major increase in petrol and diesel prices, creating concern across the country. According to official details, petrol prices have been raised by Rs. 137.23 per litre, while diesel has seen an even bigger increase of Rs. 184.49 per litre. After this hike, the new price of petrol has reached Rs. 458.40 per litre, and diesel is now priced at Rs. 520.35 per litre.

This decision was shared during a joint press conference by the Petroleum Minister and the Finance Minister, where they explained the reasons behind the sudden increase. The government stated that the move is part of its commitments to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and also reflects the rising oil prices in the global market. With international crude oil prices going up, Pakistan has been forced to adjust its local fuel rates accordingly.

Officials also revealed that an important meeting was held under the leadership of the Prime Minister, where chief ministers, military leadership, and other key figures were present. In this meeting, it was decided that fuel subsidies will now be limited only to specific groups, instead of being provided broadly to all citizens. This step aims to reduce financial pressure on the government while still supporting those who need help the most.

The new fuel prices will remain effective for at least one week, after which they may be reviewed again depending on global market conditions. However, the immediate impact of this increase is expected to be significant. Higher fuel costs will likely lead to increased transportation expenses, higher prices of goods, and an overall rise in the cost of living.

This development has caused concern among the public, as many people are already dealing with inflation. The sharp increase in fuel prices is likely to make daily life more difficult, especially for middle- and lower-income households.
