The United States government has issued a strong warning asking all American citizens to leave Iraq immediately due to the worsening security situation in the country. The advisory was released after reports that a missile struck the US Embassy compound in Baghdad. According to Iraqi security officials, the missile reportedly hit the helipad area of the embassy and caused a fire on the roof of the building.
US authorities believe that Iran-aligned militia groups operating in Iraq pose a serious risk to American citizens and interests. In recent months, several attacks have been reported against US diplomatic facilities, businesses, and energy infrastructure connected to American companies. These groups have also threatened to continue targeting locations linked to the United States.

Officials also warned that places frequently visited by foreigners, including hotels and public facilities with US ties, have been targeted in previous incidents. Because of these threats, Americans in Iraq could face dangers such as kidnapping or direct attacks. The advisory also mentioned that militia activity could limit the ability of Iraqi authorities to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Due to these growing risks, the US State Department has raised the travel advisory for Iraq to Level 4, which is the highest security warning issued to travelers. This level means that Americans are strongly advised not to travel to the country.
The US government has clearly stated that citizens currently in Iraq should leave as soon as possible. Authorities also said they will assist Americans who want to depart safely from the country.
