Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has stated that 40 new oil and gas reserves have been discovered during the tenure of the current government.
In a written reply submitted to the National Assembly, the minister confirmed that out of these 40 discoveries, 18 new reserves have already been made operational.
According to the written response, the newly discovered reserves have produced 61 million cubic feet of natural gas per day as of December 2025. In addition, the new fields are generating 1,553 barrels of oil per day.

The reply further stated that 22 additional reserves are currently in the processing phase and are expected to contribute to production once development work is completed.
The discoveries are seen as a positive development for Pakistan’s energy sector, which has long faced challenges related to supply shortages and rising import costs. Increased domestic production could help reduce reliance on imported energy resources and strengthen the country’s energy security.
Officials believe that continued exploration and development efforts will further enhance local energy output and support economic stability in the coming years.
