The Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) has called on the government to abolish the super tax in the upcoming 2026–27 federal budget, arguing that it was originally introduced as a temporary measure but has now effectively become permanent.

In its budget proposals submitted to the Ministry of Finance, the forum expressed concern over the continued burden of the super tax on businesses. PBF representatives stated that maintaining such taxes discourages investment, increases the cost of doing business, and slows down economic growth.

They emphasized that the super tax was meant to address short-term fiscal challenges, but extending it indefinitely has created uncertainty for the private sector. According to the forum, removing this tax would provide relief to industries, improve business confidence, and encourage both local and foreign investment.

The PBF also highlighted that Pakistan’s business community is already dealing with high operational costs, including energy prices, inflation, and taxation pressures. In this situation, eliminating additional taxes like the super tax could help companies expand, create jobs, and contribute more effectively to the economy.

The proposals are part of broader recommendations submitted for the upcoming budget, as stakeholders from various sectors push for business-friendly policies and sustainable economic reforms.
