Muslim make up one of the largest religious communities in the world, with significant populations spread across Asia, Africa, and parts of Europe. Recent data compiled from sources including World Population Review, Pew Research Center, and the CIA World Factbook highlights the countries with the highest Muslim populations globally.
Indonesia ranks first on the list, with an estimated 243 million Muslims, making it the largest Muslim-majority country in the world. Pakistan follows closely in second place with around 241 million Muslims, reflecting the country’s strong Islamic identity and growing population.

India ranks third with approximately 200 million Muslims. Despite being a Hindu-majority country, India is home to one of the world’s largest Muslim communities. Bangladesh holds the fourth position with about 151 million Muslims, where Islam is the dominant religion.
In Africa, Nigeria ranks fifth with nearly 97 million Muslims, followed by Egypt with around 90 million. Turkey and Iran also feature prominently, with Muslim populations of approximately 84 million and 83 million respectively.
China ranks ninth with an estimated 50 million Muslims, mainly belonging to ethnic groups such as the Hui and Uyghurs. Algeria rounds out the top ten with about 44 million Muslims.
Other countries with large Muslim populations include Iraq (40 million), Sudan (39 million), Afghanistan (37 million), Morocco (36 million), and Ethiopia (35 million). Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, has around 32 million Muslims, while Uzbekistan has approximately 30 million.
Yemen, Niger, and Malaysia also feature among the top 20 countries, with Muslim populations ranging between 20 and 27 million.
These figures highlight the global presence and diversity of Muslim communities across different regions and cultures. Experts note that Muslim populations continue to grow due to demographic trends, particularly in South Asia and Africa.
