To curb air pollution and smog, the Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) has announced stricter action against smoke-emitting vehicle across the city.
According to CTO Syed Abdul Rahim, drivers of commercial vehicles found emitting excessive smoke will have their driving licences suspended, while the route permits of those vehicles will also be cancelled.
He said the measures are essential to protect public health and improve air quality. The CTO further announced that trolleys and dumpers carrying sand, soil, or construction materials without protective tarpaulin covers will not be allowed to enter the city. Tractor-trolleys must also use tarpaulin covers, water sprinkling, and other preventive measures before operating on city roads.

During the ongoing anti-smog campaign, traffic police have issued 114,378 challans to smoke-emitting vehicles and registered 1,401 cases for various violations.
Authorities also took action against 53,599 vehicles transporting sand, soil, and other pollution-causing materials without proper covering. In addition, 188,374 vehicles faced legal action for operating without valid fitness certificates or for being in poor mechanical condition.
