The federal government is collecting approximately Rs. 118 per litre in taxes and levies from the current petrol price of Rs. 297.53 per litre, according to the latest official fuel price structure, effective July 4, 2026.

The total amount includes the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL), the Climate Support Levy, and other applicable government charges. However, General Sales Tax (GST) on petrol remains zero.

Despite the recent reduction in fuel prices, a substantial portion of the amount motorists pay at the pump continues to consist of government-imposed taxes and levies rather than the base price of the fuel itself.

The revised pricing structure reflects the government’s continued reliance on petroleum-related levies as a source of revenue while keeping GST on petrol unchanged.

Consumers are advised to note that although headline fuel prices have declined, taxes and levies still account for a significant share of the final retail price paid for every litre of petrol.
