Pakistan has marked a historic milestone in its maritime and automotive sectors with the arrival of its first Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) shipment carrying more than 2,000 electric vehicles (EVs) at Karachi Port.
According to media reports, the vessel MV Grande Shanghai successfully docked at the Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited (KGTL), where the country’s first RoRo electric vehicle shipment is being unloaded. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry described the arrival as a significant achievement for Pakistan’s shipping and trade industry.
He said the introduction of RoRo shipping reflects the country’s growing focus on modern logistics and efficient port operations. Unlike conventional cargo methods, RoRo vessels allow vehicles to be driven directly on and off the ship, significantly reducing loading and unloading times, lowering transportation costs, and improving cargo handling efficiency.

Officials believe the successful arrival of the first RoRo EV shipment will strengthen Pakistan’s import infrastructure, support the growing electric vehicle market, and encourage the adoption of advanced logistics solutions. The development is also expected to enhance trade efficiency and reinforce Karachi Port’s position as a key regional maritime hub.
