The federal government has officially lifted the four-year ban on new domestic gas connections. Under the new arrangement, consumers will be provided with re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) instead of locally produced natural gas.
The announcement was made by Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, accompanied by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry. They explained that the decision was approved by the federal cabinet on the directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with the aim of reducing the difficulties faced by the public.
Malik pointed out that since 2021, households had been forced to depend on LPG cylinders, which are not only costly but also pose serious safety risks. He added that although RLNG is more expensive than local natural gas, it is still much cheaper than LPG and will provide relief to millions of families.
The government has also confirmed that all pending applications for new gas connections will now be processed, ensuring that long-delayed consumers finally get access to supply.
This move is expected to bring major relief to households that have been struggling with rising fuel costs and limited energy options over the past few years.
