Saquib Fayyaz, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry, has strongly condemned the spread of misleading rumors regarding the GSP Plus status of Pakistan on social media. He emphasized that such unverified information can create unnecessary panic among exporters, businesses, and investors who rely heavily on stable trade policies for their operations. In today’s digital age, where news spreads rapidly, even a small piece of false information can have a significant impact on market confidence and economic activity.
Fayyaz urged the public, especially members of the business community, to act responsibly and ensure that only accurate and verified information is shared. He highlighted that Pakistan’s GSP Plus status is a crucial trade facility that allows the country to export goods to European markets with reduced or zero tariffs. Any rumors suggesting its suspension or cancellation can harm the country’s export sector, particularly industries like textiles, garments, and manufacturing, which depend heavily on this arrangement.

He further pointed out that misinformation not only affects businesses but can also damage Pakistan’s reputation in international markets. Investors and global partners closely monitor such developments, and false narratives can create doubt and uncertainty. Therefore, relying on official statements and credible sources is essential to maintain trust and stability in the trade environment.
The FPCCI president’s message serves as a reminder that responsible communication is key in safeguarding economic interests. By discouraging the spread of rumors and encouraging fact-based reporting, he aims to protect Pakistan’s export sector and ensure that businesses continue to operate with confidence in the global marketplace.
