The Punjab government has taken an important step to improve public safety in Lahore, the provincial capital. In a joint effort by Punjab Police and the Safe City Authority, a new security barcode system is being introduced for all public transport and online taxi services operating in the city.
This system is designed to protect citizens, especially women and families, while using transport services. Under the new plan, every public transport vehicle and ride-hailing car will have a unique security barcode attached. This barcode will include verified information about the driver, conductor, and vehicle details.
Before entering any vehicle, passengers will be able to scan the barcode using their mobile phones. This will allow them to instantly check full details of the driver and vehicle, helping them make safer travel decisions.

According to police officials, this system will help identify fake vehicles and unverified drivers more easily. It will also make it difficult for criminal elements to operate within public transport services, improving overall security in the city.
In addition to this, new regulations are also being introduced for online food delivery services. Under these rules, all delivery riders will be required to hold a police-issued character certificate. This step aims to ensure that only verified and trustworthy individuals are allowed to provide delivery services.
Authorities say the main goal of these measures is to create a safer environment for citizens and reduce the chances of any unpleasant or criminal incidents.
With the introduction of this barcode system and stricter verification rules, Lahore is moving towards a more secure and technology-based public safety system that focuses on transparency, trust, and citizen protection.
