The federal government is considering rescheduling the presentation of the 2025-26 budget for the second time, with sources indicating it may now be presented to Parliament on June 12 or 13 instead of the previously announced June 10 date.

Eid Holidays and NEC Meeting Cause Delay
The proposed change comes due to Eid-ul-Adha holidays and the scheduled National Economic Council (NEC) meeting. Government officials note that while June 7-8 will be public holidays for Eid, they may need to declare the third day of Eid (June 9) as a working day to accommodate the NEC meeting and Economic Survey release.

Logistical Challenges Cited
Finance Ministry officials explain that holding the NEC meeting and releasing the Economic Survey on the same day would be impractical. Traditionally, a two-day gap is maintained between the NEC meeting and budget presentation to allow for finalizing development projects before their inclusion in the budget.

Key Participants in NEC Meeting
The crucial NEC meeting will bring together chief ministers from all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir to consult on the annual development program.

A final decision on the two-day budget presentation extension is expected soon. This marks the second proposed change to the budget schedule, reflecting the government’s efforts to balance administrative requirements with religious observances during the Eid period.
