A citizen has reportedly lost more than Rs. 1.2 million after falling victim to a major cyber fraud carried out in the name of an e-challan.
The scam emerged after fraudsters allegedly used the e-challan system to deceive the citizen, ultimately resulting in a large amount being withdrawn from their bank account.
Although e-challans were introduced to modernize Pakistan’s traffic enforcement system and replace traditional paper-based challans, scammers are increasingly exploiting the system to target unsuspecting citizens.

The incident highlights the growing threat of digital payment and phishing scams linked to fake traffic fines. Citizens are advised to verify challans through official traffic police platforms and avoid clicking on suspicious links or sharing banking credentials, PINs or OTPs.
The case also underscores the need for greater public awareness and stronger safeguards to prevent criminals from exploiting digital government services.
