Xiaomi has stunned the global automotive industry after its electric sedan, the SU7 Ultra, defeated Ferrari’s SF90 XX, a supercar worth nearly Rs. 25 crore, in head-to-head drag races. The unexpected showdown took place in Abu Dhabi and was organized by the popular automotive platform Carwow.

Despite being priced at around Rs. 2.1 crore, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra outperformed the Ferrari in both the quarter-mile and half-mile races, proving that electric vehicles are rapidly closing the performance gap with traditional supercars. In the quarter-mile run, the SU7 Ultra clocked an impressive 9.3 seconds, while the Ferrari SF90 XX completed the same distance in 10.2 seconds.

The SU7 Ultra’s remarkable performance comes from its three electric motor setup, which delivers instant torque and explosive acceleration. This advantage allowed the Xiaomi EV to launch faster and maintain strong momentum, highlighting how advanced Chinese EV technology has become in a short time.

The result has sparked widespread discussion in the auto world, as Ferrari is globally known for its speed, engineering excellence, and racing heritage. Xiaomi’s victory does not mean traditional supercars are obsolete, but it clearly shows that electric vehicles can now compete and even outperform petrol-powered giants in straight-line acceleration.

This race also reflects a broader shift in the automotive industry, where technology companies are entering the car market and challenging established luxury brands. Xiaomi, once known mainly for smartphones and electronics, is now emerging as a serious player in high-performance electric vehicles.

While factors like handling, driving experience, and brand prestige still favor traditional supercars, the drag race result sends a strong message: the future of speed may be electric.
