The Punjab government has announced a major financial relief package for women students under its electric bike (E-Bikes) scheme, making it easier for them to own environmentally friendly transportation.
During a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, it was decided that the provincial government will pay the down payment and registration fee for women students applying under the scheme. This means eligible students will not have to bear any upfront costs when receiving an e-bike.
Under the new policy, women students will only need to pay a monthly interest-free installment of Rs. 2,100. By covering the initial expenses, the government aims to reduce the financial burden on students and encourage more women to benefit from the program.
Punjab to Launch 10,000 E-Bike Rental Service to Promote Green Transport
The initiative is part of Punjab’s broader green transport strategy, which seeks to promote environmentally friendly travel while improving mobility for students across the province. Officials believe the scheme will help female students travel safely, conveniently, and independently to schools, colleges, and universities.
In addition to the special relief package, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also approved the expansion of the provincial e-bike program. Under the expanded plan, the government intends to distribute 100,000 electric bikes to students within the next one year.
To further support students, the Punjab government will provide a subsidy of Rs. 70,000 per e-bike, making electric vehicles significantly more affordable. The subsidy, combined with interest-free monthly payments, is expected to increase participation in the scheme and promote the use of clean energy transportation.
Officials say the program will not only reduce transportation costs for students but also help lower fuel consumption and environmental pollution across the province. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable development, women’s empowerment, and improving access to education.
The Punjab government’s latest decision is expected to benefit thousands of female students by providing affordable, eco-friendly transportation with minimal financial pressure. Authorities are expected to announce further details regarding eligibility criteria, the application process, and distribution timelines in the coming weeks.
