Meta is changing how it moderates content on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads by introducing a community-driven approach. Starting March 18 in the US, users will be able to add context to posts to help clarify and correct misinformation.
This new system, inspired by X (formerly Twitter), will allow users to contribute directly to the moderation process. The goal is to balance free expression and minimize harm, improving on the previous fact-checking system, which was criticized for broad censorship.
Initially, the community notes feature will be tested in six languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and Portuguese, with plans to expand further in the future.
This move marks a major shift in how Meta handles misinformation and online discussions.
