Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant discovery of new oil and gas reserves in Sanghar district, Sindh, strengthening Pakistan’s domestic energy outlook. The discovery has been made at the Bobi Deep-1 well, marking another important step in the country’s ongoing exploration efforts.
According to the company spokesperson, the well is currently producing around 2,000 barrels of oil per day along with approximately 1.1 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of gas. This output adds valuable support to Pakistan’s already limited energy production capacity and helps reduce dependence on imported fuel.
Officials stated that this discovery is expected to open new possibilities for further exploration in the surrounding areas. Early assessments suggest that the region may hold additional untapped reserves, encouraging more drilling activity in the future. This could potentially increase both oil and gas production if further successful wells are developed.

The company highlighted that this finding will contribute to improving Pakistan’s overall energy supply situation. By increasing local production, the country may reduce its reliance on expensive imported fuels, which currently place a heavy burden on the national import bill and foreign exchange reserves.
Experts believe that discoveries like this are crucial for Pakistan’s long-term energy security. While the production volume is still modest compared to national demand, it represents a positive step toward strengthening domestic resources and stabilizing the energy sector in the coming years.
