Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced Pakistan’s first-ever official government-run mortuary transport service, aiming to provide free and dignified transportation for deceased individuals. This initiative is being seen as a major step toward supporting grieving families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

The service has been officially launched in key cities, including Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi, as part of its initial phase. According to the Chief Minister, the program will gradually expand to all tehsils across Punjab by June, ensuring that every area has access to dedicated mortuary transport vehicles. These ambulances will be specifically assigned for this purpose to avoid delays and ensure respectful handling.

During the launch ceremony, Maryam Nawaz personally inspected the vehicles and handed over keys to rescue personnel. She made it clear that families should not be burdened with high costs for transporting their loved ones. In many cases, such expenses can add to the emotional and financial stress, and this service is designed to remove that pressure completely.

Authorities have been strictly instructed that no charges are to be taken under any circumstances for this service. The Chief Minister emphasized that compassion and humanity must guide the conduct of rescue staff, especially when dealing with grieving families. She also directed officials to provide emotional support and counselling wherever possible, recognizing that families often need more than just logistical help.

To make the service easily accessible, citizens can simply dial 1122 to request transportation from hospitals to homes. Hospitals involved in the program will maintain 24/7 trained staff and dedicated counters to manage requests efficiently. The entire system will be monitored through a smart rescue and dispatch mechanism to ensure timely response and transparency.

This initiative reflects a broader effort by the Punjab government to improve public welfare services and bring a more humane approach to healthcare and emergency support systems. By offering free mortuary transport, the government aims to ensure dignity for the deceased and relief for families during their time of grief.
