At a United Nations meeting, a draft resolution presented by Gulf states calling for an end to Iranian attacks in the region received the largest support in the council’s history, with 135 countries backing the proposal. However, Russia and China decided not to participate in the voting, highlighting divisions among major powers over the issue.

According to reports, the draft resolution was introduced by Gulf countries to address rising tensions and security concerns in the region. Presenting the resolution, Bahrain stated that the matter is not only a regional concern but also an issue of global importance, emphasizing the Gulf region’s vital role in international stability and global energy security.

The United States representative at the meeting said Iran’s strategy of spreading instability and putting pressure on neighboring countries has clearly failed. The statement reflected Washington’s strong support for the resolution and its call for an end to attacks targeting Gulf states.

On the other hand, Iran strongly criticized the countries that supported the resolution, accusing them of placing political interests above the protection of the United Nations Charter. Iranian officials described the support for the Gulf draft as a “stain on the council’s record.”

Meanwhile, Russia and China chose not to take part in the vote, arguing that the resolution did not present the full and balanced picture of the conflict or address the root causes of the tensions.

It is also noted that the resolution did not mention the airstrikes on Iran by the United States and Israel, which the UN Secretary-General had described as violations of the UN Charter.

Russia also questioned claims that Gulf countries’ territories were not being used for attacks on Iran, while Bahrain rejected the allegation, saying Gulf states had never allowed their land to be used for such actions.
