The Punjab government’s ambitious “Suthra Punjab” cleanliness campaign has achieved a major milestone, with Bhowana Tehsil in Chiniot District being declared the cleanest in the province. This recognition comes after a comprehensive six-month evaluation process that assessed sanitation standards across 132 tehsils in Punjab.

The transformative campaign, personally spearheaded by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and implemented by the Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC), has made remarkable progress in urban cleanliness. A staggering 615,000 tonnes of waste were systematically cleared from 16 participating tehsils, demonstrating the program’s massive scale and impact.

Bhowana’s top ranking reflects its exceptional performance across multiple criteria. The tehsil excelled in waste collection efficiency, prompt resolution of public complaints, and overall operational effectiveness. Its success story was made possible through the deployment of over 15,000 dedicated sanitation workers and thousands of cleaning machines across the province.

Beyond improving public hygiene, the initiative has had significant socioeconomic benefits. The campaign’s revamped waste management model has created more than 100,000 employment opportunities, providing livelihoods while transforming Punjab’s urban landscape.

The Punjab government plans to build on this achievement by expanding the program’s best practices to other districts. Bhowana’s success serves as both an inspiration and a blueprint for creating cleaner, healthier communities throughout the province.

This landmark accomplishment underscores the government’s commitment to improving citizens’ quality of life while addressing critical environmental and public health challenges through innovative urban management solutions.
