Kuwait has announced a new monthly allowance of Rs29,400 (KD560) for unmarried women over the age of 30, aiming to provide direct financial support and improve economic security. The initiative, introduced by the Ministry of Social Affairs, is designed to support eligible women and enhance their overall quality of life.

According to reports, the scheme will initially be launched on a trial basis before a final decision is made about its permanent implementation. Charitable societies have been assigned the responsibility of reviewing applications, following approved procedures, and verifying official documents, including confirmation of the father’s death where required.

Recent statistics from Kuwait’s Public Authority for Civil Information show that nearly 40,000 Kuwaiti women over 30 remain unmarried. The new policy has sparked discussions about changing social trends and economic challenges faced by women without family-based financial support.

Alongside this measure, the government continues to encourage marriage through financial assistance programs. Kuwaiti men marrying Kuwaiti women are eligible for a state-backed marriage grant of KD6,000 (around Rs315,000). Of this amount, KD2,000 is provided as a non-repayable gift, while KD4,000 is given as an interest-free loan. The loan is typically repaid in monthly instalments of about KD50, helping couples start married life without heavy financial pressure.

Data from the Ministry of Justice also reveals evolving family patterns in Kuwait. On average, a marriage is registered every 34 minutes, while a divorce occurs approximately every 75 minutes. These figures highlight shifting social dynamics and pressures on traditional family structures.

The allowance policy has generated mixed reactions on social media. Some users praised it as a positive step toward supporting women and strengthening social welfare systems. Others debated its long-term social impact. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to balancing welfare support with policies that promote family stability.
