Users across Pakistan may experience temporary internet slowdowns and reduced connectivity starting today, as scheduled maintenance work begins on an international undersea communication system. The update was shared by PTCL, which confirmed that the disruptions are linked to repairs on a major submarine cable network consortium responsible for carrying global internet traffic.
According to the official notice, the maintenance activity will continue from 14 April 2026 to 20 April 2026, during which time users in different regions of the country may notice slower browsing speeds, delays in streaming, and unstable connections. The impact is expected to be more noticeable during peak usage hours in the evening, when internet demand is naturally higher across households, businesses, and mobile users.
PTCL explained that the work is part of a necessary repair operation to fix a fault in one of the international undersea cables. These submarine cables are extremely important because they carry the majority of Pakistan’s international internet traffic. When even one section is under maintenance, it can affect overall bandwidth and performance across the country.
While the company has assured that efforts will be made to minimize disruptions, it also acknowledged that some level of service impact is unavoidable due to the large-scale nature of the repair work. Users are advised to expect occasional fluctuations in speed rather than a complete outage.
In its statement, PTCL apologized for the inconvenience and requested customers to remain patient during the maintenance window. The company emphasized that such upgrades and repairs are essential for long-term network stability and improved future performance.
Internet users, especially those relying on stable connections for work, education, and business operations, are encouraged to plan ahead and remain aware that service quality may vary temporarily throughout the week.
