Pakistan has warned that Afghan refugees awaiting resettlement in the US will be considered illegal immigrants and deported if America refuses to accept them. According to a report published in Dawn News, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that while Pakistan is willing to negotiate with the US on this issue, refugees whose resettlement has been denied will face deportation.

Approximately 600,000 Afghans have fled to Pakistan since the Taliban takeover in August 2021, with many seeking resettlement in third countries, particularly the US. While around 80,000 Afghans have been successfully relocated, over 40,000 remain in limbo. Pakistan currently hosts over 2.5 million registered Afghan refugees, with half registered with the UNHCR.
