The Punjab government, under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is planning to significantly reduce traffic fines for various types of vehicles in an effort to provide financial relief to the public.
According to reports, the Chief Minister has already approved a summary prepared by the Punjab Traffic Police. However, the proposal still requires formal approval from the Punjab Assembly before it can be officially implemented.
Under the proposed changes, fines for motorcycles will be reduced from Rs2,000 to Rs1,000, while rickshaw fines will drop from Rs3,000 to Rs1,000. For cars, the penalty is expected to decrease from Rs5,000 to Rs3,000. These reductions are aimed at easing the financial pressure on everyday commuters who rely on these vehicles for daily travel.

For larger and more expensive vehicles, the fines are also being lowered. Luxury vehicle fines will be reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000, while light transport vehicles will see a drop from Rs20,000 to Rs7,000. Similarly, heavy transport vehicle fines are expected to decrease from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000.
Despite these reductions, authorities have decided that penalties for serious overspeeding violations will remain unchanged. This decision reflects the government’s focus on maintaining road safety while offering relief in other areas.
Officials believe that this step will help balance enforcement with affordability, ensuring that traffic rules are still followed without placing excessive financial strain on citizens. If approved, the revised fine structure could benefit a large number of drivers across Punjab, making the traffic system more manageable and fair for the general public.
