The Islamabad Traffic Police, in collaboration with the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration, has officially announced that M-Tag registration will become mandatory for motorcycles and all two-wheelers starting February 20, 2026. This new decision marks an important step toward improving traffic management, strengthening security, and modernizing vehicle monitoring systems in Islamabad.
According to officials, motorcycle owners must register for the M-Tag at one of the 13 designated centers across the capital. Registration services will begin daily from 10:00 am. To complete the process, vehicle owners are required to present their original vehicle registration papers along with a valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). Authorities have urged citizens to complete the registration process before the deadline to avoid inconvenience or possible penalties.
The M-Tag system was previously introduced for cars and other vehicles during the first phase of the initiative. Officials have confirmed that more than 600,000 vehicles have already been successfully tagged. With the expansion now covering motorcycles and two-wheelers, the administration aims to bring a larger portion of vehicles under a unified digital monitoring system.

The primary goal of making M-Tag mandatory is to enhance traffic monitoring and ensure smoother vehicle movement across the city. By using electronic tagging, authorities can better manage traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve response time in case of violations or emergencies. The system also plays a vital role in boosting overall security by enabling better vehicle identification and tracking.
Officials believe that extending M-Tag registration to motorcycles is a necessary step, as two-wheelers make up a significant portion of daily traffic in the capital. With thousands of motorcycles on the roads every day, digital tracking will help maintain discipline and improve road safety standards.
The Islamabad administration has encouraged all motorcycle owners to cooperate with the new policy and complete their registration at the earliest. The move reflects the government’s broader commitment to smart traffic solutions and modern urban management. As Islamabad continues to grow, such initiatives are expected to create a safer, more organized, and efficient transportation system for everyone.
