The Government of Japan has announced a new round of Teacher Training Scholarships for 2026, offering Pakistani schoolteachers an opportunity to receive advanced professional training and conduct education-focused research in Japan.

The scholarship is being offered under Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and is specifically designed for experienced teachers working in primary and secondary schools, as well as those associated with teacher-training institutions. The initiative aims to improve teaching skills, provide exposure to Japan’s education system, and promote the exchange of best educational practices between the two countries.

Selected candidates will participate in an 18-month non-degree training and research programme at designated Japanese universities. The programme focuses on professional development rather than academic qualifications, and participants will receive a certificate upon completion, not a degree.

As part of the scholarship, successful applicants will first undergo Japanese language training to help them adjust to academic and daily life in Japan. Since much of the training and research guidance is conducted in Japanese, language preparation is a key element of the programme.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be born on or after April 2, 1991
  • Hold a recognized university degree or teacher-training qualification
  • Have at least five years of teaching experience by October 1, 2026
  • Be actively working in primary or secondary education or teacher-training institutions

University faculty members are not eligible to apply. Applicants must also be in good physical and mental health and demonstrate a willingness to live and study in a foreign country.

The application deadline is February 12, 2026. Interested teachers are advised to carefully review the eligibility criteria and application procedure before submitting their applications.

This scholarship programme reflects Japan’s continued commitment to strengthening educational cooperation with Pakistan and supporting the professional growth of teachers through international training and knowledge exchange.
