The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has issued a strict directive prohibiting all uniformed personnel from seeking lifts on motorways and national highways, aiming to uphold discipline and improve public perception of law enforcement presence on roads.

According to an official circular issued by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Motorways Imran Shahid, the ban applies to all departments, including staff deployed at toll plazas and other roadside duty points. The letter clearly states that no official in uniform will be allowed to stop private or commercial vehicles for the purpose of requesting a ride under any circumstances.

The directive has also been circulated to senior officials, including the CCPO Lahore, Rescue 1122, PTC Farooqabad, and other relevant institutions to ensure coordinated implementation. Authorities emphasized that any violation of this order will result in strict disciplinary action.

Officials noted that such practices had been negatively affecting the image of the motorway network, particularly M-2 Motorway and other national highways, where both local and international travelers expect a professional and disciplined environment. The presence and conduct of law enforcement personnel play a key role in maintaining public confidence and road safety standards.

The circular further clarified that motorway police personnel are deployed strictly for official duties, including patrolling, traffic regulation, and enforcement of laws, and not for personal convenience or unofficial travel.

Authorities have warned that any officer found violating the instructions will face departmental proceedings without exception, as the department moves to reinforce professionalism and accountability within its ranks.
