Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates are set to introduce a Pre-Immigration Clearance system that will significantly ease travel for Pakistani passengers heading to the UAE. The agreement will allow travelers to complete immigration formalities before departure from Pakistan, enabling faster and smoother entry upon arrival in the UAE.
According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Interior Ministry on Monday, the decision was finalized during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a UAE delegation led by Ahmed Abdullah Bin Lahej Al Falasi. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and introducing measures to simplify immigration procedures for passengers.

Under the proposed agreement, Pakistani authorities will complete all immigration and related clearances for UAE-bound travelers at departure airports in Pakistan. Once the system is in place, passengers arriving in the UAE will be able to exit airports without undergoing routine immigration checks, similar to domestic or pre-cleared travelers.
The initiative will be launched on a pilot basis, with Karachi selected as the first operational location. If successful, the system will later be expanded to other major cities across Pakistan.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the new arrangement would reduce waiting times, streamline travel procedures, and significantly improve the overall passenger experience. He described the initiative as an important step toward modernizing travel processes and facilitating smoother movement between the two countries.
The UAE delegation welcomed the proposal and assured Pakistan of full cooperation in implementing the system. Both sides agreed to continue close coordination to finalize the administrative and technical framework required for the pilot project.
While the Interior Ministry did not announce a specific signing date for the agreement, officials confirmed that relevant authorities have been directed to accelerate preparations so the system can be launched at the earliest possible time.
The Pre-Immigration Clearance facility is expected to particularly benefit frequent travelers, businesspersons, overseas workers, and families, as the UAE remains one of the most popular destinations for Pakistani nationals.
Analysts say the move reflects the strong bilateral relationship between Pakistan and the UAE and aligns with global best practices aimed at enhancing passenger convenience, airport efficiency, and cross-border mobility.
